Adenomyosis is a disease
quite confused with endometriosis
The two diseases have very similar symptoms and both can cause infertility and miscarriages. The exact cause of the disease is also not known. The similarity is such that many experts define Adenomyosis as Endometriosis within the uterine body.
Often, those who have Adenomyosis also have Endometriosis lesions in the pelvis and uterine fibroid nodules (60 to 80% of cases)
What is
Adenomyosis?
Adenomyosis is a benign gynecological disease, dependent on the estrogen hormone, produced by the ovaries.
It is characterized by presence of endometrial tissue (glands and stroma) within the myometrium (muscular layer of uterus).
It was first described in 1947. With the advancement of technology, it was possible to verify that it is more common than previously believed, affecting up to 30% of young women.
Each woman deals with doubts and expectations, with problems and overcoming, which deserve all the care and consideration. It makes all the difference to have a doctor who respects that individuality.
What are the symptoms
of Adenomyosis?
The most common symptoms of adenomyosis are:
-
Abnormal or dysfunctional uterine bleeding
-
Chronic pelvic pain, severe menstrual cramps
-
Dyspareunia (pain during sex)
-
Infertility or recurrent miscarriage
-
Urinary or bowel symptoms
In about 30% of cases, the patient is asymptomatic, that is, they have the disease but do not present any complaints or symptoms.
How the diagnosis
of Adenomyosis is made?
The diagnosis of Adenomyosis is carried out from non-invasive exams, such as Transvaginal Ultrasound and Magnetic Resonance of the pelvis.
It is often a incidental finding, that is, it is discovered in imaging tests that had been performed for another purpose.
What is the treatment
of Adenomyosis?
The treatment is done with medicines (contraceptive pills, hormonal IUD), or even minimally invasive surgery, called adenomyomectomy.
For patients who no longer have the desire to reproduce, surgical treatment with complete removal of the uterus it is still the most effective therapy, especially in the most symptomatic and advanced cases.

I discovered some problems after an exam and started searching the internet for specialist doctors because I am from the interior of SP. I saw many comments about the Dr and so I decided to schedule a telemedicine appointment where I was received with great affection, he gave me unparalleled attention and after the appointment he also continued to give me the necessary assistance. I also want to thank your secretary for always being very solicitous and treating people with great affection. Gratitude

Excellent professional Dr Marcello. After years after a diagnosis, I was able to get to the problem and treat it with correct medications and tests. I definitely recommend it to all women who, like me, have difficulty getting pregnant. Congratulations and lots of success!
