TREATMENT OF URINARY INFECTION

IS IT COMMON FOR WOMEN TO HAVE URINARY INFECTION?

Cystitis, or lower urinary tract infection, is very common in sexually active women, greatly increasing its incidence in the presence of kidney stones and/or pregnancy. It is characterized by the presence of bacteria in the bladder, presenting quite varied symptoms, the main ones being: burning when urinating, colicky and stabbing pain in the lower abdomen, as well as increased urinary frequency and urgency to urinate.

CAN PREGNANT WOMEN TAKE ANTIBIOTICS?
Pregnant women: due to several typical and normal changes during pregnancy, such as changes in the angle between the urethra and bladder and decreased immunity, pregnant women tend to have an even higher rate of urinary tract infections and/or cystitis than non-pregnant women. They also present symptoms such as pelvic pain in the lower abdomen, and dysuria or burning sensation in the urinary tract are more rare. It is always important to seek medical attention if you have such symptoms, including at the Maternity Emergency Room if necessary.

It is important to emphasize that the diagnosis of urinary infection is clinical, that is, confirmed through a history of signs and symptoms; therefore, even if the Urine 1 test is normal, the doctor should treat it as cystitis (urinary infection), if the symptoms are strongly suggestive, prescribing appropriate antibiotics, which can be used by pregnant women normally. The treatment of choice is always antibiotics, due to the risk of Premature Labor, the main cause of which is cystitis or urinary infection.
